The Fullness of Time

Image
The previously hidden mysteries of God are revealed in Jesus, especially in his Death and Resurrection, the turning point of History . The Bible speaks of the “ mysteries ” of God, His ways that are hidden from human wisdom and defy expectations. As Jesus declared, not everyone can understand the “ mysteries of the Kingdom .” It is God who reveals the deep and obscure things to whomever He pleases, and in His Son, He has done so for all men to see.

The New Age Dawns

God has spoken His decisive and superior “ word ” in His son, and He did so “ upon the last of these days .” This refers to the end of the period epitomized by the Levitical code with its priesthood and repeated animal sacrifices, a system of worship centered in the Tabernacle and the later Jerusalem Temple. With the appointment of Jesus as the High Priest “ after the order of Melchizedek ,” a new and final era of salvation commenced.

Raised From the Dead

Paul anchors what God has done for us in the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, which also inaugurated the time of fulfillment - Galatians 1:1-5. The source of Paul’s apostleship is the same God who raised His Son from the dead. He died, and his Father resurrected him, “ to rescue us from this evil age .” In his Letter to the Galatians , the Apostle responds to critics who behave as if the old era were still in effect, insisting that Gentile believers must be circumcised. They also question Paul’s apostolic authority.

The Ends of the Ages

Paul links the start of the “ Last Days ” with the death and resurrection of Jesus. The time of fulfillment arrived, and all God’s promises now find their “ Yea and Amen ” in the risen Savior. Similarly, the  Letter to the Hebrews  declares that “ in these last days ,” God has “ spoken ” His definitive “ Word ” in His Son who now sits at the “ right hand of the Majesty on High .” History reached its pivotal point in the life, death, and resurrection of the Son of God.
