The Crucified Messiah

Jesús es el Hijo de Abraham, el heredero de las promesas, y el Mesías que implementa la herencia para su pueblo . El Evangelio de Mateo declara que Jesús es “ el hijo de David, el hijo de Abraham .” Él es el descendiente que hereda las promesas hechas al Patriarca, y esto introduce el tema del cumplimiento que caracteriza a Mateo – (“ Porque así conviene que cumplamos toda justicia ” - Mateo 3: 15).

El nombre ‘Jesús’ significa “Yahvé salva.” La salvación prometida por el Dios de Abraham ha llegado a través de Jesucristo . El niño llevado por María fue “ engendrado por el Espíritu Santo .” El ángel le ordenó a José que llamara a este niño 'Jesús': “ Llámalo Jesús, porque él salvará a su pueblo de sus pecados .” Su nombre señalaba el acto salvífico de Dios que estaba a punto de desarrollarse en la Historia.

Después de su resurrección, Jesús declaró: “ ¡Se me ha dado toda autoridad en el cielo y en la tierra, por lo tanto, ve y haz discípulos de todas las naciones! ” Luego envió a sus discípulos a anunciar su Señorío y salvación hasta los “ confines de la Tierra .” La Era de la Salvación comenzó con su Muerte y Resurrección; por lo tanto, su mensaje vivificante debe ser anunciado a la humanidad.

Foundational to the Letter to the Hebrews is the appointment of Jesus as our High Priest. This was due especially to his obedience “ unto death ” whereby he achieved the “ purification of sins .” In his sufferings, he was “ perfected .” God vindicated his sacrifice by resurrecting and seating him at the “ right hand of the Majesty on High ” where he now intercedes for us.

Jesus is revealed as the Savior of Mankind in his sufferings and self-sacrificial death for others, including his enemies . The inability of men to recognize Jesus as the Son of God until after his crucifixion is a central theme of the  Gospel of Mark . Ironically, the first man to do so is the Roman centurion on duty at his execution. His self-identification as the suffering “ Son of Man ” made him unrecognizable to unregenerate men.  He was the Savior no one expected or wanted .

The mission of the Church is to proclaim the Good News of God’s Kingdom to all nations until the moment Jesus arrives  – Matthew 24:14. Jesus commanded his true followers to announce the same message that he preached, which he summarized as the “ Good News of the Kingdom of God .” His Church would spread this message  to all nations without exception  and in unexpected and paradoxical ways. Christ’s sovereignty over humanity must be established! Until his return, we are commanded to proclaim his Gospel to the “ ends of the Earth .”
